Annual herbs, erect, ascending or decumbent, ca. 30 cm tall; stems usually branched, glabrous.
Leaves elliptic to rhombic-ovate, 2–7 cm long, 1.5–4 cm wide, broadly cuneate at base, deeply retuse at apex, glabrous on both surfaces; petioles to 4 cm long.
Inflorescences terminal and in upper axils, the terminal elongate, to 7 cm long, the lower shorter to subglobose; flowers with inconspicuous bracts shorter than perianth, narrowly ovate, minutely awned.
utricle indehiscent, ovate, slightly wrinkled below, constricted and smooth upward; seeds orbicular, black and shining, surface supra-reticulate.
